Project

Appen is looking for a Python developer with the programming skills necessary to support our projects. The successful candidate will be required to prepare and manipulate large amounts of audio and text data for processing through our online annotation tools, shape the outputs into client-specific formats for delivery, help design end-to-end project solutions, and provide tools and support for our linguist specialists throughout the project cycle.

You will be part of a global company with resources on three different continents and an agile mentality that allows for personal and professional growth. You will be joining a team of developers who will mentor you and support your contribution to the projects. The successful applicant will be technically proficient, a clear communicator, a team player, and available to work full-time in Davao.

Tasks

• Process large amounts of text and audio data
• Load data into our proprietary tools for transcription and translation
• Transform data from our internal structures to various client-specified formats
• Design and develop technical solutions for projects
• Update and retrieve data from SQL databases
• Write python and bash scripts to enable and automate project processes
• Assist the maintenance of existing IT scripts
• Contribute to knowledge transfer by documenting processes

Requirements

• Degree in Computer Science
• Strong skills in Python
• Experience with SQL databases (esp. PostgreSQL)
• Comfortable with Linux and/or Mac OS X operating systems
• Familiarity with scripting in Bash
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills

Desirable

• Web development skills (HTML, CSS, etc.)
• Knowledge of the Flask framework
• Knowledge of building for cloud services (esp. AWS)
• Experience with CI environments and patterns
• node.js, javascript, AngularJS or TypeScript an advantage
